A public Citizen Science Festival organised by Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD), the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (MfN) will take place as part of the conference on 14.-15. October 2020 at the Kulturbrauerei.
The Citizen Science Festival 2020 follows the same themes as those of the international conference and aims to show how citizen science can contribute to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and achieving a more sustainable society. 10 German citizen science projects and 10 citizen science projects from Europe and beyond will be invited to showcase their projects and results at market stands and invite visitors to the festival to interact and participate.
Visitors can discover exciting research, exchange ideas or observe and enjoy the hustle and bustle. A curated complementary programme will include lectures, workshops, hands-on activities and science ‘slams’. More information about the complementary programme and the participating projects will be published shortly.
Current challenges and new opportunities
Due to current challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are making arrangements for projects to also showcase their work digitally. Should it not be possible to hold a physical meeting of this size in October, some parts of the Citizen Science Festival 2020 will be organised as digital events. We will do everything possible to ensure that the conference together with the festival will go ahead, whether analogically or online.
The festival is generously funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research Germany (BMBF) and supported by the European Commission. The international call for participation in the festival is led through the CS-SDG project, which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101000014.
