The Declaration

The aim of the conference is to formulate a Declaration as a kind of social contract between citizen scientists, academics and policy makers. The contract is a voluntary commitment by all partners to advance the agenda of the SDGs according to their possibilities. In connection with political articulation, the Declaration includes a guide for action by defining roles, contributions and concrete potentials of citizen science to advance the SDGs.

The Declaration will acknowledge the diverse structure of citizen science. We are convinced of the unique characteristics of citizen science as a complex enterprise, because its social and scientific function cannot be achieved in any other way. Only citizen science serves several logics and exercises simultaneously, since it mediates between science and society and fills a gap. The task for the Declaration is the communication of the complexity and reliability of citizen science transparent for all.

We are looking for people, universities, institutions, organisations, NGOs, CSOs, policy makers, government representatives and companies that endorse the declaration here.
